Investigate the rock cycle. What is a rock? What is the rock cycle? How do rocks form? How are they classified? Your students will answer these essential questions as they conduct a series of hands-on activities. Using the set of rock specimens included, they will observe the distinct characteristics of each type of rock and explore the igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic processes of rock formation. Your students will Understand the processes that form igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. Identify rocks by their physical characteristics. Classify igneous rocks as extrusive or intrusive. Classify sedimentary rocks as clastic, organic or chemical. Classify metamorphic rocks as foliated or nonfoliated. Model the effects of metamorphism on rocks. Relate different types of rocks to the processes of the rock cycle. Class Size: 40 Students. Grades: 7-10.
Introduce your students to the world of minerals. Provide your class with a hands-on lesson in the formation and characteristics of minerals. Using the set of specimens provided, the students observe the distinct characteristics of minerals and perform a variety of tests to classify them with respect to hardness, streaking, color, luster, specific gravity and reaction to acids. They'll also grow their own microcrystals to understand how crystals form beneath the earth's surface and what environmental conditions are required. Your students will identify minerals based upon their physical properties. Determine the hardness of common minerals using Mohs scale of hardness. Examine the crystalline structure of minerals. Calculate the specific gravity of mineral samples. Predict the reaction of specific minerals to hydrochloric acid. Investigate how crystals form from liquids. Class Size: 40 Students. Grades: 7-10.
25" x 38" Designed in Germany by a well-reputed chemistry teacher, our full-color, illustrated Periodic Table of the Elements features the natural look of the elements or their most usual application. Our poster and wall-sized editions will fit well on your office or classroom wall.
8 1/4"x 11" Designed in Germany by a well-reputed chemistry teacher, our full-color, illustrated Periodic Table of the Elements features the natural look of the elements or their most usual application. Our poster and wall-sized editions will fit well on your office or classroom wall, while the binder size provides all the pertinent data on the elements on the reverse side and fits well in your students' binders.
This Crystal Model Set contains different colored jacks (Red, Black and White) and connectors (long and short) in a prescribed number to be joined together in an illustrated way to form a Sodium Chloride structure. Material: Polyethylene.
This Crystal Model Set contains different colored jacks (Red, Black and White) and connectors (long and short) in a prescribed number to be joined together in an illustrated way to form a Diamond structure. Material: Polyethylene.
Introduces students to the value of food, its chemical substance and teaches the nature of food stuffs. Experiments: starch test, sugar test, lipids (fat) test, protein test, vitamin C test. Contains: iodine potassium iodide solution, biuret solution, vegetable oil, sudan IV solution. Benedicts mixture A, benedicts B, starch, glucose, absorbic acid, indophenol, protein, test tubes, droppers, instructions and background materials. Grades 5-9.
Students will test the physical properties and investigate the chemical composition of carbonated sodas. Then they'll formulate hypotheses, checking their predictions with experiments that they design and conduct themselves. In the process, they'll reveal the composition and nutritional value of various sodas. Enough for 40 Students.
Two commonly used drugs, aspirin and antacids, will be analyzed separately. After investigating samples included in kit, students can select brands of their own choice for additional comparison. Grades 9-12.
Using comprehensive, curriculum-based investigations, your students will learn about the metric system, mass, volume, density, gravity, temperature and pH. Through these activities, the class gains a thorough understanding of how to gather information, graph and analyze data, and interpret scientific diagrams. Grades 7-10.
Your students will become junior detectives, honing their forensic skills by solving the mysteries surrounding a fictitious "crime scenario". They'll conduct a series of forensic analysis activities to determine if a crime has been committed. Each activity is centered around a particular analysis technique to include toxicology, chromatography, finger printing, document analysis and simulated blood typing.
Visualize the potential contamination of groundwater. Construct mini-groundwater simulation models showing the movement of a simulated, colored pollutant. Determine under what conditions contamination occurs from a variety of sources such as spill, farms, and buried tanks and how polluted groundwater eventually reaches the drinking water supply. In the process, students learn about the water cycle, water quality, ppm and ppb pollutant contamination, porosity of soils, and other related concepts. Grades 6-10.
Observe the use of microbes for oil degradation. Model various spill scenarios and monitor the effectiveness of the provided freeze-dried oil-degrading microbe mixture in remediating the waste. Set up a simulated oil spill in water and treat it with the special microbial product to observe the physical changes degradation of oil film over time. Additionally, they simulate three spill scenarios on beach sand, gravel and cobbles in order to observe the difference in degradation rates. The class also explores bioremediation methods for other waste chemicals and compares their effectiveness to traditional clean-up methods. Grades 7-10.
Introduce your students to the fundamentals of chemistry. Provide your class with a basic understanding of the primary concepts of chemistry as they investigate how matter is classified, identify the various types of mixtures, and compare the properties of solutions with the properties for mixtures. They'll also learn to identify elements and compounds and study how chemical symbols, formulas and equations are used to describe chemical reactions. Grades 7-10.
